About

Weddings

Wedding photography has come a long way in the last few years. From the classic but usually stiff and posed wedding photographs of the 1960s and 1970s, wedding photographers have evolved their approach to the reportage style favoured by couples today.

Wedding photojournalism continues to grow in popularity but it can be difficult to do well. With his long experience as a news photojournalist, Peter is perfectly placed to offer a unique professional photography service for your special day.

“The ultimate aim of my wedding photography is to create a visual narrative of your wedding or civil partnership. I create far more than a static album with a few set pieces. Formal wedding photographs still have a role to play but wedding photography should primarily tell the whole story of the day, bringing out the personalities of the bride, the groom, the attendants and the guests… Good wedding photography is about capturing the events in a human way. The end result should be about the people, not the ceremony special though that is. Wedding photographers should distil the essence of each individual wedding and then bottle it to savour in the years to come…”

Attending your wedding or civil partnership day from beginning to end, Peter handles the classically posed group portraits with humour and professionalism but is unobtrusive as he moves through the rest of the day, taking hundreds of candid photographs that capture the spirit and style, the emotion and the personalities of the people who attend your celebration. Later, in collaboration with you both, he personally designs your album from start to finish, bringing to life the narrative he photographed throughout the day.

Portraiture

Portrait photography has been around since the invention and popularisation of the camera. Subjects were generally seated against a plain background with their heads held by a clamp (to stop movement) during the 30 second exposure. Times have changed…

Peter specialises in ‘environmental portraiture’; photography which takes place in the client’s home, usual or favourite surroundings and visually illuminates the subjectl’s character, lifestyle and environment.

“By photographing you in your natural surroundings I am better able to see your personality, and therefore capture a true reflection of your character rather than merely portraying a likeness of your physical features. You will be more at ease (especially so for children), and so be more likely to express yourself.”

With his background as a photojournalist, Peter offers a unique approach to portraiture. He will put you at ease, allowing the camera to capture you at your most relaxed, bringing out your personality and character. He uses his creative skills to develop the setting and the lighting and his photojournalism experience to capture the moment.

“A single photograph can express a beautiful narrative, tell a fabulous story. In pursuit of this I explore with the client an idea or subtle theme for the photographs which reflect an aspect of their life; perhaps Time or Style, maybe Passion or Interest. The subsequent portrait shoot is an exciting collaboration resulting in photographs to treasure for a lifetime.”

Exposure usually around 250th of a second, no clamps!

About Peter

The job of a professional wedding and portrait photographer is to visually capture a brief interval of time in your life – in just the way you want to remember it. For such an extraordinary task, you need an extraordinary photographer. Peter’s photographs speak for themselves.

Peter’s contemporary photography service regularly exceeds expectations (see ‘Testimonials’). A news photojournalist of enormous experience, Peter combines candid photography with an amazing eye for detail. His photojournalism approach to photography enables him to tell your story perfectly.

“I was drawn to contemporary wedding and portrait photography by the prospect of recording personal histories as they happen, but in a really natural way; capturing significant times in family lives with minimal intrusion.”

Social photography – wedding photojournalism and environmental portraiture – now form the majority of Peter’s photographic work. His passion and enthusiasm for his discipline is evident every time he picks up a camera. His own experience with you guides him as he personally designs your framed portraits, albums and interactive slideshows, bringing to life the narrative he photographed throughout the day.

“I’m available for commissions throughout the UK and will travel further afield if required, but it all starts with a phone call. Call and speak to me now, or send a message from the contact page. Ask me anything you like and I’ll do my best to answer you. Photography questions are best, though I’m not bad on cooking, DIY and motorbikes too!”
